After a stellar career at Athens High School, where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track, . Nelson went on to star at Memphis State Univer- sity. At Memphis State he lettered in football and basketball (1955-56) and was inducted into the Memphis State University Sports Hall ofFame in 1976.
He was drafted by the Baltimore Colts where he played seven years and was traded to the New York Giants in 1964. He was a member of two World Championship Teams and made All Pro in 1958-59 and was selected to the All Time Baltimore Colts Team. Nelson now lives in Baltimore.
