Steve Allen
Class of 2006
Steve Allen is a former Athens High School superstar. He was named first team all state in 1957 as a guard and played in the North-South All-Star game as a co-captain with Pat Trammell.
Allen attended the University of Alabama, where he lettered in football for Paul "Bear" Bryant in 1961-1963. He played on the Alabama Sugar Bowl teams in 1961 and 1963, and played in the Orange Bowl in 1962. Allen was part of the 1961 national championship team at Alabama. Some of his notable teammates were Joe Namath, Pat Trammell, Steve Sloan, Leroy Jordan, Billy Neighbors, Tom Booker, Bill Oliver and Jackie Sherrill.
The former Athens star was elected co-captain for the Crimson Tide in 1963, the same year he was awarded the Cobb Theater Award for outstanding senior offensive and defensive player.
The Crimson Tide's win/loss record was 30-3 during his tenure.
After graduating from Alabama, Allen went on to a successful business career. Allen retired in 2003 as Vice President/General Manager of Martin Marietta Materials, Inc.
