Class of 2022
Mike Davis along with Katherine Conner started the girls athletic programs at Ardmore High School. Davis would serve as Ardmore’s girls basketball coach from 1971-82. He also coached volleyball for two years and the boys basketball team from 1979-81.
Davis posted a career record of 78-37 as the Lady Tigers basketball coach. His teams of the early 1980’s were dominant. The 1980/81 and 1981/82 teams were a combined 42-8. The 1981/82 team captured the county season and tournament championship, Area 14 championship and were Region 7 champions. Ardmore would lose to the eventual state champions Pisgah in the quarter-finals of the state tournament.
Angie Fogg played basketball at Ardmore and said Davis was more than just a coach. “Coach Davis was tough yes but he was very caring person. He was like a father figure. He supported us girls both on and off the court. He loved our parents and the community of Ardmore. I am a cancer survivor. When I was going through my treatments, Coach Davis would call all the time and check on me. He would coach and encourage me. Coach Davis is a good man and he was a great influence not only on starting girl’s athletics at Ardmore High School but the community as well,” said Fogg.
